GREENVILLE, S.C. (June 2, 2022) – Carolina Ballet Theatre, Greenville’s only professional resident dance company, announced today it raised $40,000 during its Spring Guild Gala held on May 21. Funds raised through donations and a silent auction will be used to continue providing professional performances, masterclasses, and quality educational programs for participants to experience the joy and magic of live dance regardless of financial barriers.
“For more than 50 years, Carolina Ballet Theatre’s mission has been to engage, entertain, and educate our community through the dynamic medium of dance. We are very proud to surpass our fundraising goal this year with $40,000 raised–an achievement that would not be possible without the dedicated efforts of our Guild, patrons, local organizations, business partners and individual donors,” said Lisa Larocque, president of the Carolina Ballet Theatre Board of Directors. “We will continue to have a lasting impact on the arts in Greenville thanks to the community’s support.”
A portion of the funds raised will go toward expanding one of Carolina Ballet Theatre’s unique programs, the Boys Ballet Program. For more than five years, the Boys Ballet Program has given boys ages seven to 11 the chance to join an inclusive organization where they can learn and express themselves through the art of dance. Although, this tuition-free program focuses on ballet, prior dance experience is not required. Additionally, participants in this program can audition for a spot in one of Carolina Ballet Theatre’s professional performances at the Peace Center.
Carolina Ballet Theatre also provides more than 200 complimentary tickets to TD SYNNEX Share the Magic local charity beneficiaries: A Child’s Haven, Clement’s Kindness, Make-A-Wish South Carolina and Pendleton Place. Most recently, the children and their families were treated to a special hot chocolate reception that included a meet-and-great with the professional cast.
In addition, funds raised will go toward creating more programs to introduce dance to local children that otherwise would not have access. Studies have shown that students who participate in dance are less likely to experience stress, anxiety, and depression. It also helps develop core muscles, balance and strength. Carolina Ballet Theatre is actively working with local organizations to increase these opportunities for dance in Greenville County.
As a Peace Center Arts Partner, Carolina Ballet Theatre is a fundamental aspect of Greenville’s amazing arts community by providing a season of professional ballet performances. The company fosters and develops young, local talent and provides a platform as they pursue a professional career in
