A Word From Our Board of Directors
Dear Families and Friends,
As you know, Coronavirus COVID-19 has changed how we all live and has affected our daily lives in ways no one could have imagined. The purpose of this letter is to address some developing challenges specific to Carolina Ballet Theatre (CBT) that we must manage differently in light of our current social and economic environment. Your help, support, and understanding is needed more than ever.
Our commitment to the health and safety of our dancers and supporters remains a top priority. With that commitment in mind, we will not conduct our fall and winter season, and specifically the production of The Nutcracker, in the same manner we all have come to appreciate and enjoy for many years. This is certainly a disappointment, but please know we remain committed to sustaining the traditions of CBT. The Show Will Go On and We Will Keep Dancing!
We are currently working on a plan that will allow us to produce the Nutcracker: Once Upon a Time in Greenville on a small scale. This plan will include many of the traditions of CBT’s production of The Nutcracker, but with a greater emphasis on fundraising. We hope you will appreciate the creative spirit behind the effort to move the smaller production to a more intimate venue, DanceArts Greenville’s The Black Box Theatre.
We must approach this season with a different vision and a different goal than in years past. While we may be without the grandeur of The Peace Center and the exposure this venue provides to our program, our plan will focus on sustaining the values of CBT. Help us champion these efforts as we invest in our dancers, create diversity in shows, and provide performance education to the community. There are several new initiatives including the revival of The CBT Guild that will help us prevail. The CBT Guild is an opportunity for many of you to lend your expertise or get involved in a new way. You and your families have long been the lifeblood of CBT and we believe the Guild will serve as a new cornerstone of the foundation for CBT for many years to come.
These are unprecedented times. It is important that we sustain and continue to do things for the community and our dancers. We are so grateful to our CBT team which includes professional dancers, dancer families, artistic staff, and our supporters. Please join us in taking on these incredible challenges.
