A few months after its “Nutcracker” performances, Carolina Ballet Theatre returns to a land of fairytales.

CBT artistic director Hernan Justo has created an original ballet, “Enchanted,” designed especially to appeal to children and families.

The ballet is inspired by such familiar stories as “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” and “The Secret Garden” and integrates scenes from ballet cornerstones like “Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty,” among others.

“The goal is to tell a nice story that children will enjoy but also introduce them to classical ballet,” Justo said.

CBT’s “Enchanted” will be performed twice, 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. on March 5 at the Peace Center’s Gunter Theatre.

The ballet features seven of Carolina Ballet Theatre’s professional dancers and almost 50 others from DanceArts Greenville, the dance studio directed by Justo and his wife Anita Pacylowski Justo.

“Enchanted” begins with the story of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” about a magician’s trainee who accidentally brings several brooms to life. They, in turn, create mayhem.
