During February and in honor of Black History Month, CBT will perform Hernan Justo’s new innovative ballet, Black & Beautiful, A Tribute to African American Dancers. Justo opens the show with “We the People” – a ballet that travels through US history to feature African Americans that helped shape our great country. He then tells the stories of two dancers that revolutionized our American dance landscape ~ Arthur Mitchell (born 1934) and Misty Copeland (born 1982). Concluding the evening is the beloved ballet “Somebody to Love” that portrays the universal human race and demands unity. In addition to the ballets that include over 20 dancers, we will be featuring downtown local legend “Nathan” and his soulful sounds of gospel music. Our narrator and educator will be the esteemed Dr. Nika White. Dancer, Olivia Mozzie, South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities Sophomore Dance Student Peasant Pas Variation, Coached by SCGSAH Ballet Faculty, Miriam Mesa-Pelly, will also be featured.
